Cordelia Railroad Tunnel, oil painting

  1. I love where the artist chooses to direct our gaze. The lines, the color, the shapes and shadows all are in her control, and so are we, the viewers. The choice she makes in the edges of the frame, to limit our view while at the same time letting us know that the stream continues beyond the boundaries of the frame, as do the tracks and the building. There is more here than we can see, and so we are left to imagine what more there is. Her understanding of light and color as well as her mastery in her craft make the painting a joy to examine.
